Scope
The Octagon Centre, built in 1983 as a multi-purpose conference centre and music venue at the heart of The University of Sheffield campus. Newells Projects were privileged in being awarded the refurbishment of this 1230 fully seated, 1800-person capacity for venue.
The project was undertaken in 2no Phases.
Phase 1: Removal of the existing bar areas, inc fixtures, fittings, floor finishes and existing door sets. Removal and disposal of the existing retractable seating to the Octagon auditorium. Refurbishment of Granwood Flooring to the full area of the auditorium to restore to its former glory. Install of new retractable seating to the auditorium. Install of 2no new bar areas including internal wall, flooring, ceiling finishes, timber cladding, internal fire door sets, access ramp to allow access onto the terrace. New lighting and power, data configuration. Mechanical works included plumbing, ventilation works to the bars and food prep area. Finally, the Refurbishment of the existing internal entrance area, replacement of existing floor coverings and new décor.
Phase 2: Removal of existing cladding to the auditorium turrets, drapes and ceiling to the front bar area. Install of new acoustic Maple Wood cladding to Turrets and Pelmets. Install of new décor, fire door sets, drapes and acoustic ceiling to bar area. Electrical works inc Fire Alarm and Data to areas.
